“I have lived in San Jose for about 30 years. I love it here — it’s a great place to live, and a great place to raise a family. But lately it has gotten so expensive that it can be overwhelming.

My husband and I used to own our home. Back then, my husband’s paycheck alone could cover just about everything—rent, property taxes, bills, whatever we needed. But after the Great Recession, we hit a rough patch and had to move. And now we are living paycheck to paycheck.

We have four kids—and they often ask us when we will be able to buy our own home again. But if housing doesn’t become more affordable, I don’t know when that will happen. I worry about whether my kids will be able to afford to live here when they are older, or if they will have to leave San Jose. The thought of my family being split up is so scary I don’t even want to think about it.

We need Measure V so families like ours can stay in San Jose.”
